Chaos & Order – Zazen and Holotropic Breathwork® with Kigen Oshō and Peter Rantaša
Chaos & Order – Zazen and Holotropic Breathwork® in the new Hyakujōgan Zendo
Holotropic Breathwork® – Inner work with consciousness
Holotropic Breathwork® (developed by Stanislav and Christina Grof) is an intensive method, using nothing but the body’s own means, for reaching non-ordinary states of consciousness. Through deepened breathing, music and mindful bodywork, suppressed emotions, physical tensions and spiritual insights can become accessible – entirely without external aids or substances. The method and the breathwork are guided by Mag. Peter Rantaša, certified facilitator for Holotropic Breathwork®.
What participants report:
- Emotional release: “Old blockages dissolved – like a reset.”
- Physical release: “I felt tensions dissolve of their own accord.”
- Spiritual spaciousness: “Suddenly there was a sense of connection with everything.”
“Holotropic Breathwork is like a journey inward –
Zazen gives me the compass to locate what I experienced.”
(participant, 2024)
Zazen – The silent integration
In Zen practice we learn to find our centre while sitting, without identifying with our thoughts. Clear posture and the breath help to ground intense experiences. The silence following Holotropic Breathwork is often experienced as particularly clear and spacious. The Zazen (Zen meditation) is guided by Zen priest Seigaku Kigen Oshō, who has been a Zen monk for 35 years and has led the Bodhidharma Zendo and the Hyakujōgan Zendo spiritually since 2012.
The connection: two practices, one journey
Alternating the two creates a dynamic balance: Holotropic Breathwork (twice as “breather”, twice as “sitter”) can release buried blockages and open new spaces – the daily Zazen practice anchors these experiences in the here and now.
As a “breather” you dive actively into your inner landscape – in Zazen you return to silent presence and let what you experienced settle and integrate. The natural surroundings of the Hohe Wand and the silence of the new Zendo support this deep inner work in a natural way.
From 2026 the Hyakujōgan Zendo will offer Holotropic Breathwork regularly:
- Shorter formats (weekend)
- Once a year the deepening combination with Zazen (one week, intensive practice)
